Somebody Will be Murdered in Beijing Saturday, Apr 16

On Saturday, April 16, somebody in Beijing will be murdered! The specific details of what will transpire are still unknown, but know that there is an opportunity to bear witness. This murder is ... of the theatrical sort, and it will be staged for the benefit of charity. (Okay, I admit, you’ve just been slightly bamboozled, but read on because you might just win a pair of free tickets to this macabre event.)

The mock murder is part of the annual Murder Mystery Dinner put on by the Migrant Children’s Foundation – the proceeds of which help provide vital healthcare for migrant schoolchildren aged between 4-11 years old. This year’s dinner, held at the Hilton Beijing, will be themed as 'A Night at the Casino Murder Mystery'.

The black-tie event starts with a show performed by the British School of Beijing, Shunyi, providing the context to the ensuing murder mystery. The following four-course meal is seamlessly intertwined with the theme of the night, with clues revealed between each course, before diners are tasked with solving the mystery. The strategic element of the evening is something akin to a game Cluedo being played out in front of you: Is the guilty assailant the blackjack dealer, Mr. Pimmsworth? Or perhaps it was Ms. Carpenter, next to the slot machines, with a lead pipe.

A Night at the Casino Murder Mystery is unlike any ballroom event this year and with raffle prizes as well as a silent auction included, you'll be hard-pressed to find the last time a grisly murder benefited so many children.

Tickets to the Murder Mystery Ball cost RMB 450, which this includes: a four-course meal, glass of wine, coffee, tea, and the show! For reservations and more information email: jayne@mcfchina.org.

Want to win a pair of free tickets to the Murder Mystery Ball? Even the most dimwitted gumshoe will know the answer to this question:

Which famous fictitious Belgian detective is described as short in stature and the bearer of an immaculately groomed mustache?

Really poor taste! Given the dangerous threats that occured last Christmas and the tragic incident in Sanlitun last summer, I am sure I am not the only one who finds this sort of headline NOT FUNNY.

TOTALLY DISGRACEFUL!

I'm going to venture these sorts of dinner parties are held in places that have far higher murder rates than little old Beijing.

As for whether such events are in good or bad taste, that's in the eye of the beholder.

Not sure anyone will be taking the headline literally.
