Spice Up Your Life with Gail's Delicious Caribbean Homemade Fare

Gail Ramroop, a Canadian-born Beijing resident with roots in Trinidad and Tobago, is shaking up Beijing’s food industry with her incredible homecooked Caribbean food delivery service.

Ramroop is filling a huge gap in the market with her Caribbean food, a cuisine severely lacking in Beijing, despite there being a significant Caribbean community settled here. And for those of us that aren’t lucky enough to come from such tropical climes, these dishes are certainly welcomed to help spice up our lives.

“It’s what I grew up on, and what I will die eating. Really though, what I want is to share my culture with people, and to give them a taste of it," says Ramroop, who describes the food as homestyle.

Ingredients are muled over to the city or sent in by Ramroop’s friends from all over the Caribbean, adding those special flavors that couldn’t be replicated with China-bought ingredients. One of said ingredients is the scotch bonnet pepper, which provides the heart to her pepper sauce, which customers can buy separately for RMB 60 a pot.

As per recommendation, we got a whole Trinidad curry chicken (RMB 80), channa aloo (RMB 35), curry corn (RMB 35), and roti (RMB 50), the latter two dishes embodying the Indian influence that has rubbed off on some Caribbean food.

The whole Trinidad curry chicken was a favorite, combining a good level of spiciness with zingy flavors. The crisp and flaky roti was also a highlight, perfect for soaking up the sauce from the channa aloo

Check out the menu and add Ramroop on WeChat (ID: gailramroop) to place your order. To qualify for delivery you must spend a minimum of RMB 100, and the food will be delivered to the nearest subway station. Make sure you order 24 hours ahead of time. There’s no delivery on Saturday or Sunday.
