Be Charitable This Weekend: Maovember Launch, Haiti Bazaar, School House Rock, and GoodWorks and Maovember at the Beijinger Pizza Fest
Last weekend, Hurricane Matthew struck Haiti, leaving the island devastated in its wake. It's easy to ignore such atrocities when you're positioned far away, but this weekend provides ample opportunity to get involved in charity in our city, whether that's by helping the people of Haiti rebuild their lives, by supporting migrant children closer to home or by helping launch Maovember. Even if you were planning on stuffing your face with pizza at the Beijinger 2016 Pizza Fest (Wangjing Soho, Oct 15-16), fear not, as you'll find local charitable organizations such as GoodWorks and Maovember represented.

Oct 14: Maovember Launch Party
Maovember kicks off at Bar XL with the launch of the project's pin, designed by Maovember original Julian Tavalin, which can be bought for RMB 50. There'll be special shots on offer created by XL manager Jane Cui, or down picklebacks for RMB 30 a pop. For RMB 30, you'll also have the chance to take on Jack Zhou of Groovy Schiller's and Paul Rochon of Paddy O'Shea's at darts. If you win, prizes range from Jamesons to XL drinks, and proceeds from pins, shots, and games all go to charity. This year's partners are The Library Project and GoodWorks Coffee. The fun kicks off at 2pm and goes until late.
Oct 15: School House Rock
Pingo Space, Migrant Children's Foundation, and Home Plate BBQ are partnering up to organize School House Rock on October 15 from 3pm to late, a fun-filled charity event celebrating education with all proceeds going to support the Migrant Children's Foundation. Support the cause by buying RMB 30 raffle tickets (which include a Tsingtao), or give donations in the form of money, toys, books, or new school supplies.
Oct 16: Solidarity Bazaar with the Republic of Haiti
Get together at the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for their Solidarity Bazaar held in unison with the Republic of Haiti this Sunday, October 16 from 10am-4pm. Entry is RMB 30, which includes a raffle ticket and your chance to win some awesome prizes. There'll also be entertainment, food, and beverages to keep spirits high.
Oct 15-16: GoodWorks and Maovember at the Beijinger 2016 Pizza Fest
You may not have heard but this weekend is also host to our annual Pizza Fest. Charitable organizations such as GoodWorks (whose founder Samuel Cornthwaite tragically passed away last month), who will be selling their sustainable coffee, and Maovember, selling their badges for the Library Fund Project, will both be on hand. The festival runs both Saturday and Sunday (Oct 15-16) at Wangjing Soho, from 11am-8pm on both days. For tickets, click here, and for more information on how to get to Wangjing Soho, click here.

Hopefully one day I can join Doctors Without Borders although my parents must be against it. They are great people!

Re: Be Charitable This Weekend: Maovember Launch, Haiti...
Here's another charity event i just heard about:
Forwarding for my wife Yonnie, of Yoga With Yonnie:
Last weekend, our daughter Wednesday suffered from smoke inhalation. She got immediate medical attention at a well equipped hospital and her happy little life continues. Since last weekend, more than a hundred little children have died in Aleppo, Syria. There's just 30 doctors servicing 230,000 people. The last children's hospital is a hole in the earth. To say there's a shortage of medical care is a despairing understatement. I am nobody. Just another ordinary mother that feels the pain of seeing one's own child in distress. For no reason but chance is my baby safe and another's not. But I believe that we are all one. Yoga for Syria. This Saturday morning. 10 am. 15 October. Ditan Park. 150rmb. All proceeds to go to Doctors Without Borders who support hospitals in Aleppo and across the country.
