Celebrate Oktoberfest at Hacker-Pschorr Bräuhaus Right Now (Yes, in April)
We know the Munich Oktoberfest is normally mid-September to October, but since the weather is warming up, Hacker-Pschorr Bräuhaus have decided to celebrate the German Beer Month until April 25, and we say, why the hell not?
Having opened in 2015 on Xindong Lu, Hacker-Pschorr Bräuhaus is massive: It can seat more than 200 indoors, and another 100 outside on their terrace. Providing various traditional and meaty German foods on an equally as thick menu, they also brew three beers onsite: a pale lager, a Schwarzbier (dark lager), and a wheat beer all with 5.5 percent ABV.
Their deals on beers assume that you'll be coming in a group, with RMB 288 for three liters, and RMB 388 for four. There's also a pretty good deal that combines food and drink, for RMB 1,288, for which you will get beer bread, six meat balls with mustard and pepperoni, two lots of beer sausage (five piece in each), a brewmaster’s cold cuts platter (braised pork jelly, liver sausage, smoked sausage, boiled ham, and cheese with pickles), a garden salad, a brewery special meat platter (roasted and boiled knuckle, different sausage, meatloaf, sauerkraut, and mashed potatoes), and six liters of beer.
The grilled pork knuckle (half RMB 118, whole RMB 208) – preserved with spices for two days, set to steam then grill – is especially good, sporting a crisp outer skin and juicy meat. It's served alongside sauerkraut and fried potatoes as well as dark beer sauce. They also provide other dishes such as boiled pork knuckle (RMB 208), braised beef goulash (RMB 138), grilled salmon (RMB 148), and pork escalope (RMB 128).
The Nuernberger (RMB 88), a set of six roasted sausages, with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, mustard sauce, and Bavarian sweet mustard sauce (to pair with white sausage), gives you an idea of the size of these dishes and why it's wise to enjoy them with friends.
The apple strudel with vanilla ice cream and drenched in rum (because surely you haven't had enough beer by the time you hit dessert) also proved a winner, if you have any space left.
Aside from food and beers, how could you celebrate Oktoberfest without music? During beer month, Munich swing and show band Max Zankl will perform every night, 7-11pm, throughout the beer month.
And business lunchers aren't left out, with daily lunch specials starting at RMB 52, such as white sausages with salad and potatoes, sausage with mashed potatoes, fish and chips, and meat balls with cabbage and potatoes. Prost to that!
