Purple Bamboo: Connecting People via Chinese Learning

In many ways, living in Beijing has never been easier, whether you speak Chinese or not. But if you really want to get to know the city, excel at work, and make new friends, then it really pays off to learn Chinese. Two years ago, True Run Media decided to offer our employees Chinese language training and after reviewing all the options, we settled on Purple Bamboo Chinese School. Here’s why.

Flexible

As editors, our lives are pretty busy but Purple Bamboo can adjust the class schedule according to our availability. We can also choose from either group classes (either two to four people or five to eight people) or one-on-one classes, the latter of which makes it easy to ask any questions we have.

Fun and Interactive

Classes are structured around interacting with words and grammar points taken from current news topics (something we’re pretty keen on as editors). We never spend the classes looking at the clock; instead, we always ask “has it been an hour already?”

Designed for Us

Rather than reading out of a textbook or doing boring grammar exercises, Purple Bamboo’s teachers design all of the content especially for us. The teacher gently points out our mistakes and uses them to guide the progress of the lesson. It’s nice to feel like you are chatting with a friend in Chinese rather than sitting in a class and that certainly helps to keep you motivated. Most of us agree that we feel much more confident in speaking Chinese nowadays.

Great reviews

Don’t just take our word for it; here are some comments from other students who have studied at Purple Bamboo.
