EAT: Three New Pizza Joints, Kakikopi Grand Opening, Miam Miam Opens Hot Dog Stand
EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.
Three new pizza joints to try
Pizza lovers, rejoice: You have three new pizza options to try out this week.
First, The Pizza Show, recently opened in Parkview Green, is a casual pizzeria serving Neapolitan-style pies. The space is light and airy, with an open kitchen where you can watch the pizzaiolos at work assembling your pies (hence the name "The Pizza Show," we assume). The Pizza Show just opened on Aug 15 so we have yet to get down there and check it out, but we like what we see from their Instagram. Charred-crusted pizzas? Check. A wide range of toppings? Check. Take-out Aperol spritzes? Double-check.
Susan's, we hardly knew ye. We only reviewed Shuangjing Italian restaurant Susan's Bar in April, but it seems that that venue has already closed and the owners have moved on to a new venture, Happy Bites. Located in Jianwai Soho, Happy Bites is predominantly delivery-focused, with pizza options running from classics like pepperoni to more exotic options like durian, as well as non-pizza options like the bacon-wrapped chicken wings. Though August, 16 inch pies are half price. Search 嗨派披萨 on ele.me to order.
Lastly, Tube Station is now open on the third floor of the Topwin Center after their Gongti location closed as part of ongoing renovations to Workers' Stadium and the surrounding area. You can expect the standard Tube Station offerings you've come to know and love, including their notorious garbage pail pizza.
Miam Miam opens alfresco hot dog stand
Miam Miam has opened a food truck selling hot dogs, drinks, and other casual eats outside their restaurant in Fenghuanghui near Sanyuanqiao. The hot dog stand sits alongside a spacious area of outside seating with a faintly tropical vibe – perfect for a late afternoon beer. They currently have a couple of good deals on offer, with a classic hot dog and a soft drink going for just RMB 18 and a free draft Carlsberg with the purchase of any pizza or burger.
Aug 22-23: Kakikopi grand opening and outdoor market
Kopitiam-inspired Southeast Asian restaurant Kakikopi on Xiaoyun Lu is officially open this weekend after an extensive soft opening period, and they are celebrating with a mini outdoor market featuring Southeast Asian specialties such as kopi luwak and Musang King durian. Follow them on WeChat (ID: MULU777) and you'll get a free bottle of pandan lemongrass mocktail. Even better, if you happen to have ordered a delivery from Mulu Hutong during the lockdown period and have a cutlery set signed by owner Jasmine, you can exchange it for a free bowl of their signature Sarawak laksa. Read our full review of Kakikopi here.
Memory Bistro soft opens in Shunyi
Shunyi residents have a new dinner option, Memory Bistro, a newly refurbished restaurant and lounge bar serving Indian cuisine. The bar serves wine, beer, and cocktails, with a wide selection of whiskey available by the bottle and the glass. The restaurant is currently offering 20 percent off all menu items, so now is the time to get down and try it. Find Memory Bistro in Pinnacle Plaza.
