Women's Wine and Dine at Black Sesame Kitchen

In celebration of Women's History Month, the always excellent Black Sesame Kitchen will hold a one-off Women's Wine and Dine event this Friday, Mar 19, 7-10pm. Hosted by the founder and female chefs of Black Sesame Kitchen, ladies will be treated to a special evening of three-hour free-flow sparkling, red, or white wine as well as a 10-course spring-inspired Chinese meal, and a 15-minute spa treatment courtesy of Bodhi and delivered by "handsome male masseuses." Yummy. Entry costs RMB 398 and spots are limited so make sure to book your place pronto by adding WeChat ID: blacksesamekitchen.

Slow Boat x Berry Beans collab beer

If you've ever been to Slow Boat's Sanlitun venue, you've likely passed a small window cut out of a white-tiled wall: the home of Berry Beans coffee. Though innocuous, this small coffee shop (which originally went by the name of Chunli Coffee Co.) has been drawing coffee lovers and selfie-takers since its inception. Now the neighbors have teamed up to create a coffee-inspired beer that you can "actually drink as an afternoon pick-me-up and get right back to work." That means they've purposefully kept the alcohol low to provide "a delicate canvas for Berry Bean's talented roasters." The result is a light and creamy ale brewed with lactose, vanilla, and locally roasted 5 percent Kenyan peaberry coffee. It will be available at Slow Boat's Maizidian and Dengshikou taprooms (and later, in their Sanlitun venue) as well as all Berry Beans locations as of Friday afternoon.

Date night Wednesdays at Mosto

Every Wednesday night is now date night at Mosto. Simply order any two mains between 5.30 and 10pm and receive a choice of two glasses of house wine or a complimentary dessert such as their bitter chocolate soufflé or the classic crème brulee. Read more here.

Sip 'n' Paint returns to Cheers Shunyi

Budding artists of Shunyi will want to dust off their easels and head to Euro Plaza this Saturday afternoon, 2-5pm, to paint their most mooving (sorry) portraits of "happy cows" using acrylic on canvas. The event is open to adults and teens (12 years and older) and the RMB 310 ticket price includes all materials and two glasses of wine or soft drink per person. You've been spying on me again. In the men's room no less!!

I recall, I think, my first job, in deepest dongei, in deepest winter, in deepest hungover agony at an 8 am class, which fortunately had a fifteen minute break between periods-- just enough time to nip over to the on campus chaoshi, there to buy a bottle of 红星,(really... they sold ergoutou at the school chaoshi... like I said this was in dongbei) and back to class, the bottle beckoning from my innercoat breast pocket, but denied until end of class, Class finally over, did exactly as you have outlined above, (sans garlic clove) whereupon, on egressing said men's room, ran into (almost literally) the head of the English department, whom proceeded to buttonhole me and attempt interminable interlocution, whilst I made a valiant attempt to not breath.

I hate it when someone buttonholes me!

I am Doktor Aethelwise Snapdragoon.
