Joe’s Pizza Beijing is Now Open! Here’s a First Look

It’s official: New York pizza joint Joe’s is now open for business, with its soft opening beginning today and set to last ‘til the end of the month.

Opening their doors from 11am today, the shop will be serving up big slices of cheese (RMB 22), pepperoni (RMB 27), and Hawaiian (RMB 35). What’s more, they’ll be adding a new topping to the menu each day, with 11 options to be available by the end of the month.

We paid the shop a visit last week to see what progress was like, and upon our return it’s looking pretty spectacular, with ample seating in the front and back of the house and an open space right by the oven where guests can watch the pizza-making action unfold.

Everything is still being tested under the watchful eye of China partner Adrian Wall, a New York native who has been with Joe’s for a number of years since his start at the chain’s original location in Greenwich Village.

"We've had a lot of delays with furniture, lighting... due to Covid policy. Factories will be producing and suddenly get shut down due to restrictions, things will be in transit but be stopped halfway or not allowed into Beijing, but bringing it all here has been incredible." Wall is thankful to all the F&B venues in Beijing, saying most of the staff who have applied for positions thus far have been nothing but professional thanks to prior training at other venues.

Wall was also surprised by the support they received from potential competitiors like Chef Jeff at Tube Station and QMex, whose branch across the street from Joe's lent them furniture when they needed it most. Wall says the positive vibes have him looking forward to things moving forward in the capital.

Joe’s soft opening hours will be 11am-8pm Monday through Friday and 11am-10pm on weekends until the weekend of Sep 30, when the grand opening will take place. Until then, head on down to Zhongjun World City and grab a slice of bona fide New York pizza!
