How’s This For a Deal? eBay Users Pay *You* to Drink Warcraft Beer
The Warcraft movie has proven to be hugely popular in China, beating even Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the box office and propelling it to become the highest grossing video game movie ever.
The appetite for Warcraft-themed merchandise is so huge in China that Beijing-based media and marketing company Mtime said it sold more than USD 10 million in Warcraft merchandise before the film even opened.
Warcraft characters can be found on a wide array of products including keychains, mobile phone shells, T-shirts and even, as Tracy, our resident beer expert, reported – beer.
When Tracy broke the news that Tsingtao had come out with a Warcraft version of their canned 1903 classic beer a couple of weeks ago, she predicted they'd be “piling up in a wangba near you.”
Well, if you do happen to see them piling up in your local wangba, pick them up and sell them on eBay because people are buying empty cans of the stuff for anywhere up to USD 27 (RMB 180).
It seems overseas collectors have become thirsty for the special edition beers. Even if there's nothing in them, the collectors are willing to pay top dollar, as long as Warcraft characters Durotan and/or Andoin Luthar are featured on them.
This eBay user is selling empty cans in the fancy packaging for USD 26.88 (RMB 178.76). They have already sold two in the last 24 hours.
But even without the branded box, other eBay users are able to sell empty cans of the stuff for USD 15.88 (RMB 105.60).
So if you figured out where to buy them, you could drink the beer and then sell the empty cans on eBay for a profit.
