EAT: Wagyu Night at Beyond Yakitori, Keto and Vegan at Q Mex, Afternoon Tea at El Barrio

EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.

Thursday wagyu nights at Beyond Yakitori

Beyond Yakitori had already filled Monday through Wednesday with exclusive, one-night-a-week dishes, and now Thursday too has been added to the mix. Every Thursday, they' will be hosting a night celebrating one of the world's best ingredients: wagyu beef. Sample three, Thursday-night-only specials, including tartare of M6 Australian ribeye with capers, egg yolk, and seaweed crisp (pictured above), M5 Australian fillet katsu with house-made miso dressing, and raw sweet shrimp with wagyu ribeye and sea urchin (pictured at the top of the blog). That's alongside their usual wagyu dishes, available all week, which include charcoal-grilled wagyu fillet with torched enoki mushroom and shiso, and ribeye, fillet, and chuck triangle skewers. Seats and dishes are limited, so it's best to book ahead by calling 188 0128 9101.

Autumn wine and dine from Black Sesame Kitchen

This autumn, make the most of your celebrations and reunions with Black Sesame Kitchen's new autumn menu. Available at their courtyard or in the comfort of your own home, the ten-course menu includes dishes like pork and pumpkin potstickers (try saying that five times fast), five-flavor eggplant, black pepper beef tenderloin, and red-braised pork. The menu is priced at RMB 350 per person in their courtyard or RMB 380 per person at home (minimum of eight people), including two wine pairings. Even better, book for eight or more, and one person eats for free. See more details in the event listing. Vegan and vegetarian options are available.

New keto and vegan menu at Q Mex

Keto and Vegan may seem like opposite ends of the food-restriction spectrum, but Q Mex is catering to both with its latest menu items. For the anti-carb protein seeker, the keto tacos with chicken or steak replace the tortilla shell with a crisp piece of lettuce for a twist that works surprisingly well. Additionally, the keto double burger and the keto spicy double chorizo burger also replace the bun with a sizable lettuce wrapping.

If you're cutting out animal products on the other hand, the restaurant is also joining the feaux-meat craze with it's vean spicy chorizo tacos. Topped with paprika cream cheese, vegan sour cream, pico de gallo, and more, you'll hardly be able to tell it's not chorizo lining the shell. If Chicken is what you're missing, though, the crispy battered vegan chicken burger with buffalo sauce will leave you satisfied.

Gourmet drive-thru from Grand Hyatt Beijing

We appreciate that some people could still view dining out with a wary eye, so why not indulge in a little gourmet drive-thru for a change? Grand Hyatt Beijing is now offering a selection of dishes to order and pick up from the entrance of Made in China, with no need to even get out of the car. We're particularly excited to see Made in China dishes on the menu, as, to our minds, it remains one of Beijing's better hotel Chinese restaurants. You'll find us ordering the honey-glazed king prawns with dried chilies and ginger, the braised blue cod, and the sizzling sliced lamb with cumin and coriander. View the menu and place your order here.

Afternoon tea at El Barrio

Take advantage of the last of the good weather with afternoon tea on El Barrio's excellent terrace. Priced at RMB 198 for two people, the afternoon tea includes both sweet and savory snacks, some with a Mexican twist, some with more traditional flavors, and a choice of tea, coffee, or prosecco.
