To ring in the New Year we asked China daters to share A New Year's Kiss Story. Here are some of their best, worst, or most memorable kisses!

"This is from NYE of 2019. Back then I didn’t know it would be the last one for me in China. I was on the edge of spending NYE alone because I had a fight about an NYE place with my BF a few days before. We decided to spend NYE separately. I wasn’t in the mood to go anywhere, so I bought a cake and a bottle of champagne and sent him a picture. And surprisingly for me, he came over just before midnight for a cake and a kiss! It was a very romantic NYE for me and a good lesson of not to give up in front of 2020." – Anonymous

"NYE 2018 I kissed a very cute boy while still crying after drunkenly calling my ex in a wave of New Year's emotion. The guy was really nice about it, but I definitely didn't get his WeChat." – Anonymous

"I was incredibly drunk one NYE in Beijing, six or seven years ago. I ended up randomly grabbing and kissing one of the wait staff at the bar that night. I don't remember his reaction, but I do recall being mortified the morning after." – Anonymous

"A few moments before midnight, Jake and I were going to film ourselves doing the countdown. Problem was that the infamous Frankie was twerking on our table. She knocked a drink all over us both and we caught it on camera haha!" – Jenna, 29

"New Year's has not brought good luck for me and kissing. I’m a very peculiar man and find fighting barbaric. However, the two fights I’ve even been part of in my life have been on New Year's. First, a guy thought it would be funny to pour a bucket of Champagne ice on my wife. Second, a man was faking autism (which individuals my mother worked with for 35 years) in a crowded bar to gain attention. So, send some romantic love my way for this year." –Thomas, 40

"I had a huge crush on a co-worker of mine a few years ago in Beijing. We had a house party on NYE with other people we worked with, and I was so excited when she ended up being my New Year's Eve kiss. The downside: She threw up all over me right after." – Anonymous

What I said about the Heilongjiang flowing in midwinter was every bit as factual as the rest of the story.

The only true statement you've made in this thread!

I have the top tale of all. Every word is true. After my first long lonely year in China, I stood on the banks of the Heilongjiang, alone languishing and loathing. On a promotory high over that solemn stream, as minutes till New Year ticked away. Then behind me I hear a young woman's voice.

"Lao Wai Xiansheng, what is wrong?" "Alas, I have never been hugged in China!" The young beauty smiled and hugged me. For an instant I was overjoyed. Then melancholy overcame me once more. "Alas, I have never been kissed in China." With that, she smiled and kissed me tonsil deep. My heart skipped like March's lambs.

Then black sorrow overcame me. I wept. "What is it, my melancholy Meiguo guizi?" "Alas, I have never been f****d in China!" For the final time, she smiled and with the vigor of velvet-veiled springs, PUSHED me into the swirling icy river below. "Well, you're f****d now, aren't you?!"

Haha, nice try, but anybody thats lived in Heilongjiang through the winter know that by January 1 the river is so rock solid you drive a transport truck on the ice. Ain't no swirling icy water except under a couple feet of ice. But was still a good joke with a nice punchine.
